A.Services provided

Outdoor Services: Nephrology OPD is a specialized department run every day from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm, attended by two trained medical officers and two consultants. A total of 9500 patients attended of whom 3,316 were given specialist consultation in last year. Nephrology OPD also provides consultancy services on emergency basis on the same day referred by other departments, as well as other hospitals. Patients can have specialist’s consultation any day without prior appointment.

Indoor Services: This department runs one of the largest indoor services at BIRDEM. It provides services to 90 to 120 admitted patients every day. Haemodialysis, CAPD, IPD & renal transplantation is done on regular basis. A total of 20 renal biopsies, 3 CAPD, 10 A-V fistula and 4 permanent catheter for haemodialysis were performed in last year. This department also provides consultancy services to other departments in the hospital on request. 

Social Services: Voluntary expert services to patients in all affiliated branches of BADAS all over the country.

 

B) Academic activities: The department has its own regular clinical meeting every morning in its own classroom. We also participate in BIRDEM CME programs on Tuesday and Thursday by rotation and also attends the grand round of ‘Internal Medicine’ every Monday. Weekly journal meeting held on every Saturday morning and lecture given by students placed under our department on every Sunday. A death review meeting held in our classroom on every Wednesday. A grand round of our department also held on Wednesday. Faculty members of this department provides regular schedule lectures and takes clinical classes  both in morning and evening as per schedule to postgraduate students of BIRDEM Academy, clinical students of Ibrahim Medical College as well as to the doctors of other departments placed by rotation under this department.
